This database contains the number and per capita of reported allegations of child abuse in California counties. See Child Abuse Case Definitions for additional information on categories. Note that there may be more than one type of abuse reported per victim.
The Penal Code mandates child welfare and law enforcement agencies submit reports of substantiated or inconclusive child abuse to the DOJ.
The source for the number of reported cases is the California Department of Justice. The source for per capita data is RAND California, based on reported cases from the California Department of Justice.
