This database summarizes the emissions of major Greenhouse Gases (GHG) in California from 2000 to present. Each year, new activity, fuel and other data become available from California and federal agencies, international organizations, and industry associations. These new data allow the Air Resources Board to extend California's GHG inventory and adjust data used to estimate emissions for years already included in previously published inventories. GHG calculation methodologies often improve over time and are made more appropriate or more inclusive of the various sources of emissions. See also 1990-2004 data revised in 2007 to reflect these adjustments.
Data are presented in millions of metric tons equivalent of CO2 (MMTCO2E). Please note that GHG possess different Global Warming Potential (GWP). Additional information on GWP can be found at the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Categories reflect GHG emissions by gas and by source. The source for these data is the California Air Resources Board.
Also see State Greenhouse Gas Emissions, which provides GHG emissions from CO2 only for all U.S. states.
