Academic Performance Index

See also, more recent data.

The Academic Performance Index (API) was introduced in California public schools in 1999. API measures the academic performance and progress of individual schools and establishes growth targets for future academic improvement. The API for 1999 was based on results of the Stanford 9 achievement test, given in spring 1999 as part of the state's Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) program. The 1999 API report for each school shows the API score, a school's statewide rank, its rank compared to 100 other schools with similar demographic characteristics, an API growth target for the school and school demographics. Responses that are statistically insignificant are indicated as "NA". See API background for more information on API categories. The source for this database is the California Department of Education.
