Total retail trade is available on a monthly basis for the U.S., California, and several major metropolitan areas of the state. (Data are not adjusted for seasonally variations.) The products and services in the end stage of the sales process are reported. The source for all areas from 1989-1996 and for the U.S. from 1989-present is the U.S. Bureau of the Census. Figures for California and its metropolitan areas from 1997-present are estimated by RAND California and are revised periodically.
